In order to specify a solid background color for a frame, regardless of the frames contents, the animation must have a global palette. In addition, if all frames use the same palette, this reduces the size of the animation. Gif Animator provides two ways of creating a global palette, either by loading an existing previously created palette, or generating a palette based on the colors used by the frames in the animation.
Loading an external palette
To load an external palette to use as the global palette:
- From the Project menu, choose Create Global Palette
, or press Alt+Shift+G
- Select the Load palette from external file radio button
- Enter or select the name of the palette to load
- Optionally, select any frames you wish to apply the new palette to
- Click OK to apply the palette, or Cancel to abort
The animation reel displayed to the right of the palette preview allows you to see how the frames of your animation look when the proposed global palette is applied to them. Double click an image within the preview reel to open it in a popup window.
Creating a global palette
To create a global palette based on the frames in the animation:
- From the Project menu, choose Create Global Palette
, or press Alt+Shift+G
- Select the Generate palette from animation frames radio button
- Select one or more frames who's contents will be used to create the palette
- Optionally, select any frames you wish to apply the new palette to
- Click OK to apply the palette, or Cancel to abort
