Cyotek Color Palette Editor ships out of the box with support for a variety of common palette formats. It is also possible to extend Color Palette Editor with additional formats, or to define your own custom formats via the use of templates. Import and Export can also be used to import or export to additional file types.

When selecting an entry in the Format List, the following details are displayed.

| Can Read | Specifies if Color Palette Editor can open palettes using this format |
| Can Write | Specifies if Color Palette Editor can Save palettes using this format |
| Minimum Colors | The minimum number of colors supported by the format |
| Maximum Colors | The maximum number of colors supported by the format |
| Special | Any special features, such as swatch names or grouping |
| Color Spaces | A list of the color spaces supported by the format, for example RGB or CMYK |
