Cyotek Colour Palette Editor ships out of the box with support for a variety of common palette formats. It is also possible to extend Colour Palette Editor with additional formats, or to define your own custom formats via the use of templates. Import and Export can also be used to import or export to additional file types.

When selecting an entry in the Format List, the following details are displayed.

| Can Read | Specifies if Colour Palette Editor can open palettes using this format |
| Can Write | Specifies if Colour Palette Editor can Save palettes using this format |
| Minimum Colours | The minimum number of colours supported by the format |
| Maximum Colours | The maximum number of colours supported by the format |
| Special | Any special features, such as swatch names or grouping |
| Colour Spaces | A list of the colour spaces supported by the format, for example RGB or CMYK |
